‘There’s No Big Scandal Or Drama’
On March 24, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth shared a joint statement on Witherspoon’s Instagram account announcing that they are divorcing after over a decade of marriage.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce, and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together,” they told fans and followers. The couple share one child, a ten-year-old son named Tennessee.
The reason for their break up is reportedly not related to any particular drama, according to a source talking to E! News.
“There is no drama, no event or reason,” said the insider. “They are just two people who have made this decision with the utmost love and respect and love for their child.”
The source added, “You will see them out there co-parenting together.”
In another report from Page Six, a source said that the marriage had become platonic.
“There’s no big scandal or drama, just two people who essentially became co-parents and don’t really have any romantic feelings for each other anymore,” they explained.
After almost 12 years together, the insider said there was “zero spark and zero romance left.”
“She’s also become so much more powerful than she was when they married and has expanded her areas of interest in so many ways,” they added.
The former couple worked together on Witherspoon’s media business, Hello Sunshine, which sold in 2021 at a reported valuation of $900 million.
“They built a lot together,” another source told Page Six, but that “their lives moved in a way that made them want to make this decision together.”
Witherspoon was married once before to actor Ryan Phillippe, with whom she shares Ava Phillippe, 23, and Deacon Phillippe, 19. Their marriage lasted from 1999 to 2006, and they finalized their divorce in 2008. The pair had a tumultuous relationship, so Witherspoon “once liked the fact that [Toth] was just a solid, dependable and stable guy,” after “years of s–t” with Phillippe. Since their split, they have managed to successfully co-parent. Toth and Witherspoon expect to be able to do the same with Tennessee.
