The Rave-worthy Looks On The 2023 Oscars Red Carpet
Even though the 2023 awards show circuit included many of stunning fashion moments, the 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, stood out as a special evening. There was no shortage of glitz and glamour for the end of award season as Hollywood’s elite descended upon the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for the biggest night in the movie business. 2023 Oscars Red Carpet
What were some of the items on the 2023 Oscars red carpet? Numerous explosive ball gowns, eye-catching sequin dresses, and a ton of new fashion trends. Some of the designs, including Ana de Armas’ scoop-neck mermaid gown by Louis Vuitton with a skirt of embroidered scalloped petals and Zoe Saldana’s delicate Fendi couture pale pink satin ’90s-inspired slip dress, complemented the light tone of the new champagne carpet.
White also had a significant resurgence. Michelle Yeoh looked lovely in a white Dior haute couture silk gown with a floor-length train and a diamond Moussaieff “halo” hair adornment. Halle Berry also chose white with a neck and hip trim decorated with enormous bronze beaded florals.
Stars embraced vibrant colors as well. For instance, Sandra Oh’s marigold-hued haute couture silk chiffon gown by Giambattista Valli shifted the color wheel toward orange. Janelle Monáe, on the other hand, wore a black bustier and an orange haute couture skirt by Vera Wang, going full solar flare. The bright pink strapless haute couture gown worn by Stephanie Hsu had a huge, voluminous skirt.
Another prominent trend was full-volume, which featured oversized appliques, bows, trains, and skirts, many of which were balanced by large diamonds. With Fan Bingbing’s Tony Ward couture look, a massive emerald floor-sweeping wrap was worn over a sleek silver halter dress. Angela Bassett looked majestic in a Jeremy Scott for Moschino off-the-shoulder royal purple gown with an oversized bow neckline.
Boning and corsets were also popular. Mindy Kaling’s custom Vera Wang white dress highlighted the waist’s visible boning. But, Lady Gaga’s black Versace dress, which was just from the brand’s most recent West Hollywood runway show, was the most stunning. The voluminous skirt was supported by a corset-like bullet bra top on the sheer bodice with corset-like boning.
The customary standards for men’s red carpet-attire have been changing for a while. Lukas Dhont, a director, arrived at the ceremony wearing a special Prada suit with a vivid red top and a dazzling shirt underneath. Actor Harry Shum Jr. gave the classic suit a modern touch by donning the brand Adeam’s first men’s tux, which consists of a white suit with a blue silk belt that encircles the jacket.
The guys did a good job of embellishing. Large lapel pins used by Michael B. Jordan effectively introduced a brand-new category of men’s jewelry. Better still, the lavender suit with starburst buttons worn by Barry Keoghan. Both filmmaker Daniel Kwan’s red tuxedo with gold embroidered sleeves and actor Brian Tyree Henry’s white tuxedo with matching embroidery provided new options.
Just as the red carpet looks impressed us, the main event of the night did well to bring tears to the eyes of winners and audiences. With titles like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “The Whale” bringing first-time wins for many of the cast and crew, it was a night of history-making.
Costume designer, Ruth E. Carter became the first Black woman to win two Oscars, after winning for costume design for her work on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In 2019, Carter also made history when she was the first Black designer ever to win the Oscar for costume design, also for her work on “Black Panther.” 2023 Oscars Red Carpet
